Private Pilots Licence
Want to be able to fly your mates to the Birdsville races? Perhaps take your family to the famous Hunter Valley? What about a scenic along the Great Ocean Road with a stop off in Warrnambool for lunch? The possibilities are limitless!
PPL training is generally conducted in the Warrior and focuses on navigation training.
CASA minimum hours
5 hours General as Pilot In Command
5 hours Cross Country as Pilot In Command
2 hours instrument time
40 hours total
Realistic hours
Over and above those required for the GFPT
5 hours Cross Country as Pilot In Command
18 hours dual
There are 2 main types of PPLs;
- Full PPL - includes the qualifications to fly in controlled airspace (CTA) and GAAP zones (Moorabbin) The above realistic hours are for this type of PPL.
- Outside Controlled Airspace (OCTA) PPL - if finances are an issue, this PPL is for you. You can obtain CTA and GAAP priviledges at a later date.
These costs are approximate and will vary depending on student ability, age, frequency of lessons and dedication to the training.
Theory
Just like the GFPT theory, PPL theory can be conducted as a group class, private tuition or self study. Made up of 7 subjects, it takes 12 weeks part time to get through the theory. The exam can be sat on campus.
There are many additions you can make to your PPL - Night VFR rating, special design feature endorsement, multi engine endorsement and an Instrument rating. If you wish to embark on a career within the aviation industry, the next step for you is the Commercial Pilot Licence.
