Further Information
- Student Pilot
You don't need any special skills or abilities to obtain your Student Pilot Licence, just a desire to learn how to fly. There is no minimum age to learn to fly, however you must be 16 years of age to fly solo. - General Flying Progress Test (GFPT)
This is the first step towards your Private Pilots Licence (PPL). It gives you the training and instruction required to take passengers on local flights. - Private Pilot Licence
The licence qualifies you to fly cross-country, either alone, or with passengers. Once you have obtained the Private Pilot Licence (PPL), you can fly anywhere in Australia. Visit Alice Springs, fly to another city for lunch or see mountain ranges from the air. - Commercial Pilot Licence
There are two ways of achieving your Commercial Pilots' Licence. One is a 200 hour course and the other is a 150 hour integrated course, the Certificate IV in Aviation. The Commercial Pilot Licence is the first of the professional licences that allows you to obtain employment as a pilot. - Theory Courses
Ground theory refers to study undertaken on the ground rather than in the air and is an integral part of flying training. - Ratings and Endorsements
TVSA conducts courses in all four stages of pilot training and offers specific guidance in all the different ratings and endorsements you can obtain. - Diploma of Aviation
The course is full-time over a one year period, or it is possible to be done part time. Provided the student passes the exams and flight tests for the different levels, they will have logged around 200 hours of flying. These hours are broken down into blocks with specific hours in each aircraft type for each level. - Advanced Diploma of Aviation Flight Instruction
The course is full-time over 18 months, or it is possible to be done part time. Provided the student passes the exams and flight tests for the different levels, they will have logged around 250 hours of flying. These hours are broken down into blocks with specific hours in each aircraft type for each level. - Advanced Diploma of Aviation, Airline Pilot
